  • The 2nd International Advanced Materials (Tianjin) Summit Successfully Held

     

      Global industry giants and well-known academicians attending

    The 2nd International Advanced Materials (Tianjin) Summit has been successfully held in Tianjin Binhai New Area from Oct 30 to Nov 1 of 2008. It is jointly organized by Tianjin Municipal People’s Government, ChemChina-China National Chemical Corporation, DECHEMA e. V. – Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology and Morgan Stanley. It is executed by CNCIC-China National Chemical Information Center and Administrative Committee of Tianjin Binhai New Area.

     

    With the theme of “Opportunity & Responsibility”, the summit discussed new opportunities and emerged responsibilities under current economic situation. It attracted over 300 delegates from more than 10 countries and districts. It provides the delegates with direct benefits both from macro policy and frontier technology and with the perfect platform for ideas exchanging.

     

    . High-level Speakers; Enriched Reports & Varied Forms

    The summit form, content of speech and panel discussion were pre-prepared to focus on advanced materials industry and Binhai New Area development hot spots. The main branch was held through 2 days where 25 Senior Administrators presented their opinions, and 3 high level Panel Discussions are interspersed with the theme of “Enterprise & Society”, “Opportunity & Investment Strategy” and “Professor Lecture” in which 13 guests of governors, academicians, chief experts and entrepreneurs join. Another 3 technical-special meetings were held in the 2nd day that 25 frontier scholars elaborate the latest scientific research progresses.

    Totally 63 speakers and distinguished guests voiced their views in the summit. 4 well-known academicians attended including Senior Academician Shi Changxu and Academician Xu Xi, Gao Congjie and Du Shanyi from Chinese Academy of Science or Chinese Academy of Engineering; More than 10 chemical companies of Global Top 50 delegates gave speeches. There were 5 global executive officers from Celanese, BASF, DSM, more than 10 Asia-Pacific or Greater China executive officers from Dow, Bayer, Evonik Degussa, Lanxess, DuPont, Sabic, etc; several speakers from  finance and investment institutions such as Morgan, Standard Chartered and Black Stone interacted with participants of development strategy and counter-measure on the background of global financial crisis.

    High-level speakers presented speeches with abundant content and pushed forward warm atmosphere. The 3 technical special meetings and 3 Panel Discussions won great appraises from participants. These all show the excellence of the summit as a discussion platform.

     

    . More attention & Larger scale

    This summit has a larger scale than the last one. There were more than 300 delegates of over 200 enterprises from 10 countries and districts such as China, U.S., Germany, England, Holland, Indonesia, Spain, Singapore, Japan and China Taiwan. More than 80 participants came from overseas companies, five international associations, transnational petrochemical and chemical companies and several famous international financial investment institutions. Just as the summit is positioned as a high-level event, a number of top level distinguished guests attended that 6 are of the global level, 16 of Asia-Pacific or Greater China and 10 of R&D Directors level.

    Regarding to the number of international companies and the level of delegates, the summit did much better than previous one, which suggests that it has been widely recognized.

    . Summit Impact Strengthened through Advocacy

    The finale of the summit was to put forward Advocacy to call upon the new chemical material sector to achieve the following goals:

    l          Insist on rational growth, promote the intensification of resources;

    l          Highlight industrial responsibility, be at service for the community;

    l          Never forget environmental protection, perform the enterprise obligation;

    l          Abide by production safety rules, focus on talent cultivation;

    l          Honor IPR, increase sci-tech investment;

    l          Advocate for exchange and cooperation, strengthen enterprise self-discipline.

    These six items are crucial to the healthy development of chemical new material industry. Advocacy has been unanimously approved by delegates.

    The post reports showed that many introductions of the summit adopted Advocacy which was assumed to make the whole industry and society acknowledge self-discipline and responsible attitude of advanced materials companies.

     . High Media Attention & Far-Reaching Impact

    The summit was promoted by press release, newspapers, internet, advertisement, letters and emails. Since the summit theme closely related to latest policy and circumstances at the time, and it attracted plenty top leaders to attend, the whole industry and media mass all paid high attention to it.

    As an industrial conference, Tianjin Summit was broadcasted 3 times in the CCTV 7 p.m. “Network News Broadcast” and “Economic News”, which fully demonstrated the success of it. Many top media such as Print Media: Xinhua News Agency, Economic Daily, Science and Technology Daily, CHINADAILY, Tianjin Daily and Network Media: Xinhua Net, People's Network, Sina and Alibaba, followed up the summit while some published it on the front page and some even gave special in-depth report. Four days after the summit, there were 107000 relevant messages about the summit in Google, 10 times of the previous summit search number.

    4 overseas supporters and 3 overseas media all publicize summit announcement and post reports which have broadened the influence of the summit around the world.

    The summit extensively, actively and effectively spread development strategy and prospect of advanced materials industry and Tianjin city, and it also attracts more attention and won more sayings for the industry in the society.

    Tianjin Summit was successfully held with many highly appraises from the delegates. Johnny Kwan, the Senior Vice President of BASF, commented:It is the top-leveled and best-organized conference in China.” Yu Dahai, the Greater China CEO of Evonik Degussa said in his speech: “It is an excellent summit.” Academician Shi Changxu, Academician Xu Xi, President of DECHEMA, ex-Chairman of MRS and many other delegates expressed in the feedback letter: The summit has an original form with accurate theme and significant content, and is well organized and arranged.

    The summit accords with its position of High-end & Leading-edge. It effectively discussed the relationship and strategy development of China advanced materials industry, Tianjin city and national economy; it previewed the development trend of global advanced material industry and analyzed advantage & disadvantage of the industry. The summit serves as a sound communication platform for governors, entrepreneurs, experts and financial investors from domestic and overseas. In the light of pushing forward better cooperation and bringing in fresh reflection for development, consumption, technical innovation and industrial investment, the summit played an active role in promoting a healthy, robust and sustainable development of the industry and the regions.
