On March 29, 2007, 07 Bo’ao International Advanced Materials Forum, which lasted 2 days, was successfully concluded at Sofitel Bo’ao Hotel in Hainan, the permanent venue of Bo'ao Asia Forum. This forum was jointly organized by the People’s Government of Hainan Province, ChemChina – China National Chemical Corporation, DECHEMA e. V. – Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology and HSBC – HONGKONG and SHANGHAI Banking Corporation Limited, which respectively represents government, enterprises, societies and investors. The executive institute is CNCIC – China National Chemical Information Center.
With the theme of “leading the innovation, investing the future”, the forum eyes on global innovation, research, development, investment and industrial distribution in advanced materials industry. Over 300 elite from home and abroad were attracted to join in the forum enlightened talk and top dialogue. This forum constructed a high-end platform for an unprecedented communication between government, enterprises, societies, research institutes and investors in petrochemical industry. Predictive consensus was achieved on full cooperation to promote an intellectual, original and sustainable development in this industry. The forum made great contribution to developing national advanced materials.
1. Government – high focus
About 50 government leaders, including 6 ministers, 10 directors and 40 municipal officials attended the forum. As government entities, besides the People’s Government of Hainan Province, both China National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Ministry of Science and Technology gave an exceptional support to this forum. What makes the forum more glorified is that Gu Xiu Lian, vice chairman of standing committee of people’s congress of China and the minister of former Ministry of Chemical Industry, and Zhang Guo Bao, vice director of NDRC, addressed guiding speeches on advanced materials development in the forum.
2. Societies – full assistance
The forum gained full assistance from national and overseas societies and associations. More than 20 delegates from these units participated in the forum, including the president of DECHEMA, president of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA), vice secretary of Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC) and leaders of 13 related associations, such as China Association of Organic Fluorine and Silicone Material Industry, China Engineering Plastics Industry Association…
2. Enterprises – active participation
Top leaders from Chinese five pole-standing petrochemical corporations, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China Petrochemical Corporation (SINOPEC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), ChemChina and Sinochem – accumulated and addressed in the forum. Presidents from domestic exemplified advanced materials enterprises, such as Zhejiang Juhua Group, Guangzhou Kingfa Science & Technology Corporation and Ningbo Dacheng Advanced Material Corporation, all spare to the forum as well.
Multinational companies which rank top ten in global chemical advanced materials industry gathered here. There are about 50 delegates from these companies, including 4 presidents of Greater China (respectively from BASF, Bayer, Lanxess and Toray), several chief scientists from Dupont and DOW and top leaders flying from native Degussa and Wacker.
In the total 300 delegates, about 220 were from manufactures in which above 60% (about 140 delegates) were from top level. There were about 60 decision-makers (boards, presidents, and general directors), 29 R&D supervisors (general engineers, technical directors, and chief scientists), and 50 managers (department managers, marketing directors, president assistants and so on).
3. Financiers & Investors – wide attention
The forum attracts attention not only from petrochemical industry but also from financial and investment field. 25 delegates from 15 financial and investment companies came to attend. There are banks (like HSBC, China Construction Bank), fund and securities companies (like China International Fund Management Corporation, China AMC), and management & technology consulting company (like Bearingpoint Corporation).
4. Media – strong support
The forum earned support from 27 mass and professional media, especially the authoritative media, such as Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, China National Radio, the People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, Economy Daily… From the second half of the year 2006 to April, 2007, this forum has been reported about 100 times in paper and several hundreds thousand times in network.
