(Biography)

Michael Koenig assumed the position of Chairman of Bayer (China) Ltd., President of the Bayer Greater China Group, President of Bayer MaterialScience China on April 1, 2007. Prior to his appointment, he was the Global Head of Production and Technology Isocyanates at Bayer MaterialScience AG.

Koenig was born in 1963 in Iserlohn, Germany.  He started his career with Bayer in 1990 as Process Engineer for chemical projects in Europe. He went on to assume various positions as plant and technical manager. In 2000 he transferred to Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, as General Manager for Bayer Polymers (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.  and headed the initial negotiations for the establishment of the new production site. In 2002 he assumed the role as Site Manager of the Bayer Integrated Site Shanghai, Bayer’s largest production site outside Germany.

Koenig holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the University of Dortmund, Germany.
